For today’s post, I’d like to bring attention to the newly-announced Ken Johnson DFIR Scholarship. Created in partnership between SANS and KPMG LLP, the scholarship is to honor the memory of Ken Johnson. Ken was a fantastic father, husband, friend, and forensic investigator who left our community too early. I’m proud to work with SANS and KPMG to help remember Ken in the right way, by helping others grow and develop — just as he helped others.

Here is the SANS release about the scholarship:

I had the privilege of helping announce the scholarship at last year’s SANS DFIR Summit, and this year we will be selecting the first winner. Students, both undergraduate (junior or senior) and graduate, who are interested in growing their skills in the DFIR field are encouraged to apply. The recepient of the scholarship will receive:

  • Two SANS DFIR classes in any format (contributed by SANS and KPMG LLP)
  • One complimentary entry to the SANS DFIR Summit in the year the scholarship is awarded
  • Mentoring from two DFIR coaches (myself and David Nides)
  • Consideration for an internship

If you know someone who may be a good candidate for the scholarship, please forward them the link from above and encourage them to apply. Applications are open until June 1, 2017, and we’re excited to review the applicants!

Until tomorrow, happy forensicating!
